Coal City High School Athletics
Coal City Community Unit School District #1 encourages student participation in extracurricular activities. Participation can provide enjoyment and at the same time teach discipline, leadership, teamwork, respect for rules, and healthful living habits. Participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege, not a right. Each student who participates in an extra-curricular activity represents not only himself/herself but CCCUSD #1 as well. Student participants in extra-curricular activities always bear the responsibility of representing themselves as good citizens and positive role models. CCCUSD #1 has the authority to restrict or revoke a student’s privilege to participate in an extracurricular activity.
Coal City High School has a rich tradition of success in athletics. The school has three state championship trophies including football (1993 2A), softball (2010 2A), and wrestling (2023 1A). Coal City is a member of the Illinois Central Eight Conference. There are 8 member schools in the IC8: Coal City, Wilmington, Lisle, Reed-Custer, Streator, Manteno, Peotone, and Herscher.
