Welcome!
My name is Tyler Castle and this is my 16th year teaching at CCHS. I love speaking and teaching Spanish. I have also enjoyed starting an American Sign Language program here. I have a degree in Spanish from Calvin University and a MA in Education from Olivet Nazarene University. I also have an MA in Spanish Literature from Illinois State University. I have 6 children, 5 of them are also students in Coal City District #1. This year I am teaching AP Spanish.
I also have a child who is deaf and have been studying ASL through Gallaudet University. Gallaudet is the only liberal arts university in the US for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. As a result I am happy to be a part of starting American Sign Language classes here at Coal City High School! This is very exciting and I encourage students to take ASL to be able to communicate with people who sign. This year we will start offering ASL II so that students can complete their foreign language graduation requirement by learning American Sign Language.
