The Coalers had a great Saturday on the mat as the team collected 313.5 points to claim the Illinois High School Association [IHSA] Regional title and a spot in the team sectional. Ahead of the team tournament, 14 Coalers will be competing at the individual sectional tournament later this week for a chance to advance to the state final.
Coal City had 10 regional champions—Owen Peterson, Culan Lindemuth, Cooper Morris, Luke Munsterman, Brody Widlowski, Aidan Kenney, Mason Garner, Brock Finch, Landin Benson, and John Keigher. Cade Poyner and Alec Waliczek finished in second place and third place finishers were Jason Piatak and Noah Houston.
Coal City is hosting the individual sectional that gets underway at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 and continues with two sessions on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively. All fans need a ticket [no passes will be accepted] for each session they attend. Per IHSA, tickets are $8 per session in advance or $9 per session at the door.
