Wednesday was a good day on the course for Coal City High School golfer Jerry Carlson. The senior finished the day with an 84 placing him among the top 15 golfers and earning him a spot in the Illinois High School Association’s [IHSA] Sectional Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 7 at the University of Illinois Golf Course.
Carlson was one of 54 golfers competing in the IHSA Regional hosted by Coal City at Cinder Ridge Golf Course.
“It was great to see a Senior have a great day and advance,” Coach Harlan Kennell said.
Coalers Jaxon Duke, 91, and Frankie Ponio, 92 also did an excellent job, but fell just short of the cut to advance to sectionals.
“I am excited for the future of Coaler Golf when we have two freshmen that were in contention for advancing,” Kennell said.
Also on the course for the Coalers were Culan Lindemuth, Griffin Winke and Trevor Perino.
“It was a great day for golf and Cinder Ridge was a spectacular host for the event,” Kennell said.
The nine team tournament was won by Normal University High. Coal City finished in seventh place.
