High school library is a space for all students

As the 2023-2024 school year progresses, Mrs. Peterson is excited to welcome students to the library, which has multiple workspaces that are flexible, mobile, and modular.  These spaces are available for students to use independently, as a whole class, or in a group setting.  This has been particularly useful already, as student council students are in the library during CCT this year, and Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Anderson, and StuCo are gearing up and working hard for Homecoming 2023, coming up next week.

The library  also welcomed all freshmen English classes to the library for an overview of services the library can offer as they become more independent in their education and needs. They took a quick tour of the library, then completed a scavenger hunt to test their knowledge.  Teams raced each other, and winning teams received the ultimate prize-candy.

Peterson said, “we are always working to diversify our collection with works by minority and LGBTQ+ authors and non-mainstream formats, which includes expanding our graphic novels collection to include anime and manga publications.  Our graphic novels collection is continuing its nonstop growth.  As we celebrate diverse voices, this month we honor National Hispanic Heritage Month-stop in to check-out the phenomenal, contemporary voices in Hispanic literature.”

Always searching for the most intuitive structure for the student body to explore the library, Mrs. Peterson continues to weed the nonfiction and fiction sections, while utilizing principles of dynamic shelving, which allows for more space to face books out for easier student access and appeal.  This has enhanced circulation and ease of use exponentially.

“With the ability to change and adapt as necessary, the CCHS library is always working to meet the needs of our students and staff however they need us.” Peterson said.
