The annual winter concert featuring the Coal City High School Choirs was held Tuesday, Dec. 2 in the Coal City Performing Arts Center. The theme of the evening centered on A Winter’s Night and featured songs of the season.
The Coaler Choir began with “One Horse Open Sleigh,” a unique take on the classic “Jingle Bells.” The group also presented “Snow on Snow” by Andy Beck with student Jaiden Leman on piano.
Coal City’s Footnotes show choir took the stage with “Jingle Bell Rock.”
Four numbers were presented by the Concert Singers. The performance began with “What Were You Thinking,” a take on the popular “12 Days of Christmas,” followed by “Ding-a Ding-a Ding” and “Above the Weary Waiting World.” The final song of the evening was “Jubilate Deo,” by Peter Angela.
Coal City Choirs are directed by Matthew Felbein.
The choir also invited the Coal City High School Madrigals to participate in the concert. The group presented three of the songs that will be performed during the annual Madrigal concert, performance and reception that will take place Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets for this event are $12 per person at the door and includes an hors d'oeuvres and dessert reception —featuring the Madrigals popular wassail—that begins 45 minutes prior to each scheduled performance.
The next Coal City Music Department concert will be tomorrow—Thursday, Dec. 4—featuring the fifth and sixth grade bands under the direction of Andrew Brimm. Additional winter concerts will take place Tuesday, Dec. 9 featuring the high school bands, Coal City Middle School concerts are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16 highlighting the bands and the choir will take the stage on Thursday, Dec. 18. The band and choral concerts will all begin at 7 p.m. in the Coal City Performing Arts Center.
