Students in Mr. Hutchings’ Fitness Concepts class at Coal City High School has been learning how to create healthy lifestyles that enhance their overall quality of life—both now and in the future.
Currently, they are studying the Skill-Related Fitness Components and exploring ways to apply these components in their daily activities. These components include speed, agility, power, coordination, balance, and reaction time.
To put these concepts into practice, students have been participating in a fun yet competitive reaction time game against their classmates. The activity challenges both listening skills and quick reflexes as students race to grab the cone in front of them as fast as possible.
Another Skill-Related Fitness activity students have enjoyed involves using mini hurdles to improve agility. By setting up hurdles for quick changes of direction—both laterally and vertically—students have been able to enhance their agility and movement control throughout the week.
