The Coal City High School Pickleball Club hosted its first fall tournament, and from the start, it looked like no one could touch the powerhouse duo of Mason Garner and Brock Finch. They sliced, diced, and dinked their way through the competition, sailing undefeated in a tough double-elimination bracket... that is, until they ran into the formidable wall put up by Devon McVey and Carsen Hart.
Devon and Carsen gave Mason and Brock their first and only taste of defeat, setting the stage for a dramatic winner-take-all rematch! After a brief, high-stakes pause—thanks, moms and photographers—Mason and Brock stormed back onto the court with skill and unstoppable determination, defeating Devon and Carsen to claim the ultimate victory! Devon and Carsen played an incredible tournament, securing a very well-deserved second place.
Rounding out the top four were Aiden Meister and Aiden Kenney, third place, and Brody Widlowski and Cooper Morris, fourth place.
Club Sponsors, Mr. Leman and Mr. Unger, were not only impressed by the level of play, but mostly by the display of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The players demonstrated what it truly means to be a Coaler at the highest degree.
“A huge thanks to all the teams who competed and made this a truly memorable event,” Mr. Leman said.
Sadly, the burning question remains, “did our student champions, Mason and Brock, have the talent and moxy to take down the teacher titans of Mr. Unger and Mr. Leman?”
