Coalers open season with a win

The home opener for the Coal City Coalers Softball Team—its first game on the newly renovated field—was held Friday, March 21. The team hosted Prairie Central and came out victorious at the end. The two teams started the game by meeting at home plate with umpires Frank “Butch” Skubic, Ken W. Miller, and Jeff Emerson, all of Coal City. Miller and Skubic are Illinois Coaches Association Softball Umpire Hall of Famers—inducted in 2019 and 2023 respectively.

 

The Friday game was the start of a  busy spring break week for the Varsity Coalers as they will be on the road at Bradley Bourbonnais on Tuesday for an 11 a.m. game, they will host Kankakee on Wednesday at 4:30  LaSalle Peru at 4 p.m. on Thursday, and they will head north to Plainfield Central for an 11 a.m. game on Saturday.
