Coal City High School’s Speech Team earned second place at the Illinois High School Association [IHSA] Regional, and advanced speakers in 13 categories to the Sectional meet.
The Coalers had three individual champions—Jacob Cimino, Melody Kinder and Madison Wilson—at the Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Regional medalists were:
Jacob Cimino, first place, impromptu speaking, and third place, extemporaneous speaking
Melody Kinder, first place, original oratory, and fourth place, poetry
Madison Wilson, first place, radio speaking, and second place, dramatic interpretation
Olivia Sage and Jordan Olson, second place, dramatic duet acting
Deborah Lynch, second place, informative speaking, and third place, oratorical declamation
Grey Vanek, third place, humorous interpretation
Jordan Olson, third place, prose
Corinna Barkley, third place, special occasion speaking
Juliet Covington, fourth place, original comedy
Coal City’s Performance in the Round team took third place at the regional to advance to the sectional with its selection titled—The Worst PIR to Ever Make it Out of Regionals: The Musical. Performance in the Round is an event that is only held during the state series.
The sectional will be held at Washington High School on Saturday, Feb. 15. Speakers advancing from the Sectional will participate in the State Finals at the Peoria Civic Center Feb. 21 and 22.
