The atmosphere was electric as every point mattered in Coal City’s tennis matchup with Providence Catholic on Monday, Sept. 15.
It was a dominant day for Coal City's singles players, with Kyla Kohler and Kayla Stalter looking absolutely on fire. Kohler dispatched her opponent with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win, while Stalter powered through her match with a strong 6-3, 6-1 showing. Their strong performances set the stage for a dramatic finish. Coach Leman noted the singles players did a fantastic job of controlling the tempo of the points and moved the ball around well.
At No. 1 doubles, Camryn Planeta and Kyla Stark battled it out in an absolute nail-biter, coming up clutch with a 10-8 supertiebreaker win after splitting sets. The drama didn't end there! The No. 4 doubles team of Aubrey Jensen and Vanna Liebermann also fought back from a first-set loss to secure a 10-6 victory in their supertiebreaker. “Talk about coming up big when it counts,” Coach Leman said.
“This hard-fought win shows the incredible grit and determination of the Coal City team, bringing their season record to 8-2 as they look to take on Yorkville at home on Wednesday. What a day for tennis,” Coach Leman said.
