Homecoming Clue

Homecoming is a time to commemorate the pride one has for their school community and in this community, there is a lot of Coaler Pride to celebrate.

Next week is Coal City High School’s Homecoming, a week-long celebration designed to be the best week of the year for high schoolers with lots of fun activities, traditions and plenty of celebrating.

Student Council is responsible for organizing and carrying out the activities from setting up dress up days and class competitions, to hosting the pep assembly and dance.

Coaler Clue is the theme this year and the Student Council has planned out a week of activities that centers around mystery and the game of Clue

Several events are planned for the week that runs from Monday, Sept. 22  through Saturday, Sept. 27.

The week kicks-off with Minion Monday and that afternoon the staff will take on the seniors in a game of flag football in the stadium. The homecoming king and queen—selected by a vote of the senior class—will be announced. Members of the homecoming court are Addison Harvey, Keirsten Gabehart, Mackenna Stewart, Maria Campagna, Carter Gill, Julian Micetich, Drake Stewart and Gavin Berger.

Day two of homecoming will find students carrying their books in Anything but a Backpack.  Students will also have an opportunity to participate in bingo and Singo and sign up to participate in spirit night games.

Wednesday students will dress as their favorite memes and that evening Student Council will host spirit night games.

On day four of homecoming, students will dress in their class colors—freshman in orange, sophomores wear red, juniors come in blue  and purple for seniors. The traditional homecoming pep assembly will take place that afternoon in the competition gym with games and activities.

Throughout the week, students will be looking to gather up points for their class in order to win the spirit stick. Points are awarded in various categories from hallway decorating to spirit night game victories.

Coaler Spirit Day is Friday and the Student Council is looking for the entire community to participate. Students will be dismissed early to provide an opportunity for all students and families to take part in the parade experience. The district will operate on a first/last day schedule. Start times remain the same with dismissal for the Early Childhood Center at 1:15 p.m.; Elementary School and Intermediate School at 1:35 p.m.; Middle School at 1:45 p.m., and high school students will be released at 1:40 p.m.

The homecoming parade on Sept. 26 will step off at 2:30 p.m. from the intersection of South Broadway and Elm Street and make its way north to Carbon Street.

Greg Wills has been selected by the student council to serve as this year’s parade grand marshal. Wills, an English teacher and coach, is set to retire at the close of the school year.

Among the various  school and community units in the parade, the Coaler Marching Bands from the high school and middle school will participate.

Following the parade, Coaler fans are encouraged to head out to Dzuris Stadium to cheer on the Coaler football team as they take on Reed-Custer in conference action.

The week will end with the homecoming dance on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Students at the district’s other school buildings will also join in the activities with dress up days throughout the week that mirror the high school schedule of Minion Monday, Class Color Thursday and Coaler Friday. Students at the Early Childhood Center, Elementary and Intermediate Schools will have Superhero Tuesday and Wear Gold Wednesday.
